I know what it's like to be at the tip of the spear in driving change. I've built my career in some of the largest companies in the world as an executive and founder driving transformation in tech and culture. What I know for sure, is that change is hard. And being a bridge maker for change is not for the faint of heart. I'm Taye Mohler. And this is Anatomy of Change, a podcast series about the struggle and connection in making courageous change in the systems and structures that thread our lives. I first set out inspired to share stories of defining moments of business changemakers at the tip of the spear, navigating dicey politics, boundaries, pace and disruption and pushing on culture to empower risk and creativity for innovation, failures and all. But it no longer feels right to start here. With the deep fractures of injustice, inequities and turmoil all around us from Black Lives Matter, #Metoo, the pandemic, and our state of trust and lack of unity in our democracy. Business and society are intertwined from the foundations that have shaped our systems and norms to the cycles of order and disorder and who we place trust. Transformational change, whether in business or society requires courage, and the diffusion and shifts on power, that control access, communication, empowerment and freedom. All of this connects to the labels and value we place on people and collateral consequences from health to justice, economic opportunity, and even truth. So to understand how we got here, and the connection to beliefs and culture on change, we're going to pivot and zoom out to explore the worthy struggles that are compelling all of us through real stories from real people wrestling through opposing or polarizing positions, and personal experiences. If we really want to meet the promise of living more fully, equally, and authentically, and spark growth and innovation in business and society, then how might we make the path and set the table differently? And how can we lay down our swords to reach for shared values and compassion, even as we disagree? It begins with us.

What we need doesn't exist, yet. There's too many people that don't fit into our systems that we have. And they keep getting purged out.

My father already spent five years in prison for his convictions or speech,by distrusting in your government, that you start asking yourself questions,

Because you clearly can't vote, you know, for someone who espouses abortion...

I really just shoved it in a box in the back of my head and locked it and never processed any of it for a long time.

Everything's gonna be fine.

But its uh, really I mean, I hear you father. Many times it's not fine.

My hope for this series is that it lends some courage to be imperfectly curious to engage on the hard stuff. Move past indifference. Discuss longer and deeper and build spaces for truth and belonging for others outside our bubbles. Come along with me. And maybe by starting here, we will do some good to find connections that were closed off before and open hearts and minds to bridge for our family, neighbors, community and business. I'm Taye Mohler. And this is Anatomy of Change.
